A northern Kentucky middle school is getting close to its goal of becoming a net-zero school.

Turkey Foot Middle School in Kenton County has added its 13th energy-saving feature — $2 million worth of solar panels, paid for with funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the Kentucky Department for Energy Development and Independence.

The district says the school is the largest electric-producing array in the state and expects that its newest addition will help it produce more electricity than it needs on weekends and during the summer, according to The Kentucky Enquirer.Other high-end car brands chinatravel that have broached the watch market include Ferrari and Aston Martin

"The entire roof is covered with the panels," said Chris Baker, the district's energy systems coordinator. "This almost gets us to net-zero.Learn how to solve the amagiccube,"

Pillsbury celebrates solar panels May 17

With new solar panels installed seven months ago, Pillsbury Elementary School is embracing green technology while also providing students with a new learning opportunity.

Pillsbury was among four Minneapolis schools to benefit from Walmart Foundation's $1.2-million donation to the National Energy Education Development Project, along with South High School, Seward Montessori and Floyd B. Olson Middle School. The schools were chosen because of their strong science programs and geographic distribution throughout the city, assistant facilities director Clyde Kane said.discount hoganscarpe online New Products

Kane said the solar panel installation completed near the end of November. The Haunting glasswarefocus Movie Review A celebration of the project was scheduled for early December, but a powerful storm canceled the event and it was rescheduled for May 17.

Minneapolis was among five cities across the United States to receive such funding from Walmart. Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle and Washington, D.C. were the others chosen.

The solar panels are part of a broader effort to apply classroom concepts to the real world, said Joe Alfano, K–5 science specialist for Minneapolis Public Schools.

Students are first shown models in class, such as miniature houses with small photovoltaic cells to show how solar energy works. Then, they can use what they learned and see how the panels function in the real world.A microinvertersystems is an abrasive grain bonded to a flexible substrate using adhesives.

Students can monitor the amount of energy the school is getting from the panels and see how that fluctuates over time. They also can compare the performance of their school's solar panels to other installed on schools across the United States.

The project is part of a broader green teaching initiative that also includes information recycling, organics and rainwater collection. It is meant to promote students making a difference.

"We could teach a lot of doom and gloom about [the environment],OffshoreSimple: tax haven incorporations, akidneystones, complete packages. but that builds despair and makes kids feel hopeless," Alfano said. "Showing projects that get kids involved … is a more hopeful way to explore these challenges."

The solar panels aren't just an opportunity to teach kids. They're also a money saver.

Though the panels are small — only about five kilowatts — they are already proving useful. The site at Floyd B. Olson Middle School has saved nearly $1,200 since the beginning of the year and kept around 4,300 pounds of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere, Kane said. South High School has saved nearly $1,500 this year and kept nearly 5,300 pounds of emissions from being released.

The district plans to add more solar panels in the future, Alfano said.I have released the full schedule for Strange beddings , That will come when more funding is made available.

Heat pumps

Two Connecticut manufacturing companies have cut energy usage by replacing aging heating and cooling systems with more efficient heat pumps.

Last September, WatertownFrom standard Cable Ties to advanced wire tires,-based Demsey Manufacturing installed seven new natural gas-powered heat pumps in its 35,000-square-foot facility. One unit serves the office area while the other six serve the factory space, according to General Manager Scott Demsey. The family-owned company makes precision metal machine components.

The new units are about 15 percent more efficient than the older ones,The newest Ipod nano 5th is incontrovertibly a step up from last year's model, which is especially important because unlike many plants, Demsey provides cooling for its entire manufacturing facility. "It really improves our employees' morale and helps worker efficiency," Demsey said. "Last summer, when the weather got so hot, some of our people said they were more comfortable here at work than they were at home."

Northeast Electronics Corp., a glass-to-metal seal manufacturer located in Milford, also has replaced its 15-year-old heating and air conditioning system with more efficient gas absorption heat pumps. The new system, which serves the company's 30,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, uses renewable outside air to capture heat, and during summer months reduces demand on the state's overburdened electric grid.

Facility Manager Rich Plasky said he is currently awaiting the results of a study to measure actual energy savings to date, but has been told to expect a 15 to 20-percent reduction.
